Limerent Reaction
2008

‘Limerence’ is described as an involuntary cognitive and emotional state in which a person feels an intense romantic desire for another person. Most of us have experienced heartache; it is a form of grieving for the loss of love and the end of a romantic relationship. Usually in time we heal emotionally and are able to form new relationships, however a ‘Limerent reaction’ within a romantic relationship can lead to inappropriate perseverance and broken-heartedness.

This is a self-initiated project concerned with emotions and relationships. This project was highly personal and enabled me to work more intensely with my own past archives of images gaining skills in scanning and restoration of damaged photographs. I also worked collaboratively with individuals in a series of faked photographs. The work is a personal confessional concerned with the complex range of emotions involved within romantic relationships and how these can contain equal measures of pleasure and pain.
